Aeon Sand

  • Aeon Sand is a multimedia art project that sheds light on one of the most overlooked yet essential resources of our modern world: sand. Often taken for granted, sand is a foundational material in countless aspects of daily life from the concrete that builds our cities to the microchips powering our technology. Yet, the global demand for sand has skyrocketed, leading to widespread environmental damage and the rise of illegal sand mining operations, known as the “sand mafia.” Through this project, I explore the hidden consequences of humanity’s insatiable appetite for sand and how it affects ecosystems, contributes to social injustice, and challenges our understanding of sustainability. Using sand as both a material and metaphor, Aeon Sand invites reflection on the fragility of natural resources and the invisible systems that shape our world. By combining visual storytelling with critical research, the work reveals how sand, something seemingly abundant, is becoming a scarce and contested commodity. It asks us to reconsider our relationship with nature and the price we pay for relentless urbanization and industrial growth.
