BACH BEWEGT

  • In the video, the Prelude, Allemande and Courante of the 2nd Cello Suite by Johann Sebastian Bach were visualized together with Spence Kromberg. It is about a quarrel at a common meal, which degenerates into an escalative quarrel. In the Prelude, the quarrel begins with close-ups of wine and blood particles. In the Allemande, confrontation ensues before escalation in the Courante. There are two shapes in red, one with thicker lines than the other. These two shapes lie on top of each other and symbolize the inner struggle between modern and historical. A struggle that will never end and that we find in many parts of life, whether personal or in art. Change often triggers anger and frustration. This anger can also be seen in the visualization. The fast and aggressive movements to the music show an increasing anger, which finally reaches its peak when the camera is inside the object. The color scheme also supports this feeling. Because red has a direct association to anger and aggression, this is supported by the black environment around the object.
